According to the Edmonton Police Service Targeted Response to Auto Theft Prevention (TRAP) team in a Wednesday news release, Edmonton has seen a 26 per cent jump in auto thefts over the past three years.
In 2021, EPS received 3,744 reports of stolen vehicles. That number rose to 4,381 in 2022 and 4,714 in 2023. Edmonton, in particular, has become a hotspot for auto theft in Western Canada.
